Parents - if you receive a letter/card in the mail that is a P-EBT card. It is from the State Department of Education & DHS. The Families First Coronavirus Response Act was established to provide meals for students during the shutdown last spring. I was told that students that are not on SNAP but we’re on free or reduced lunches last school year will receive the card with approx $250 loaded on it. We have had inquiries and wanted to spread the word that the cards are legit and can be used to purchase food only. The school is not aware of who has or has not received the cards. You can contact the state @405-522-5050 if you have not received your card or if you have questions. Everything was done at the State Department level so we have no other information.
Are you friendly? Do you love kids? Do you love to serve others? If that’s you then we could use your help! We are needing substitute cafeteria workers who will be available on short notice. If interested please contact Christy White 405-542-3257 ext407

This has been Hinton's 4th week in school! As we all are aware, being at school in person can change in a moment. It is important for students and parents to be mindful of Hinton Schools Re-Entry Plan A-C. This plan outlines the districts screening protocol for all students and staff members. All parents are encouraged to screen their children at home each day. Each morning all students who ride a bus are checked for a temperature before they are able to load on the bus . Other students who do not ride a bus will be checked upon entrance to their school building. If a student has a temperature of 100 degrees or higher, the student is not able to be at school. Students who come to school with a temperature or symptoms of a communicable disease are put into isolation and their parent or guardian is contacted so the student can go home immediately. Parents will be encouraged to have their child tested for COVID-19 at any local health department. We currently have four active cases in the Hinton area. We do not have any students or staff with the virus. Hinton Schools appreciates the continued support of the parents and community. Together, we can stop the spread in our area! Mrs. Derryberry

Hinton Schools has been in session 12 days! During these 12 days our Hinton Community/Area has remained at 4 active COVID-19 cases each day. All parents, students, faculty, staff, and administrators please continue to follow the Hinton Schools Re-Entry Plans and Procedures. There is nothing more important to Hinton Schools than the safety and health of our students, our staff and their families. Be mindful of following best practices to help prevent the spread of COVID-19: -Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. -Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60 % alcohol if soap and water aren't available. -Avoid close contact with those who are sick. -Disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects. -Stay at home when you are sick. -Practice social distancing, leaving at least six feet between you and other people. -Wear a cloth mask in public when you cannot social distance. COVID-19 is transmitted through person-to-person contact and through the exchange of respiratory droplets. As more cases are being confirmed across the state, we must be vigilant. Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough and shortness of breath. If you or any member of your family exhibit these symptoms, please contact your medical provider for advice immediately. Symptoms usually appear 2-14 days after exposure. Our greatest priority is the safety of our students, staff and community members. We appreciate everyone and the continued support of Hinton Schools. GO COMETS! Mrs. Derryberry

Please let the building secretary of your oldest child(ren) know if there is a need for internet service for your student(s). Distance Learning is a path that may have to be taken at any time. Hinton Schools wants to make sure all students can access online Distance Learning through the use of cell phone hotspots or by your internet provider. Many parents have a hotspot option from their cell service. Again, contact the school secretary of your oldest child to let us know if you do not have this for your home. It is important to have access and connectivity before the possibility of Distance Learning happens for your child(ren). Call 405-542-3235 and press the extension needed to talk to the secretary.
Please note these important changes concerning fans and attendance at Hinton athletic events this season. 1. Social distancing and masks are strongly recommended. Steps are being taken to provide more space in the bleachers at football games. 2. Only school personnel, officials, and student athletes are allowed on the field. This includes before, during, and after games. 3. Any adults that are on field (primarily for pictures) must have prior approval from Mr. Hohmann. These individuals must also wear a mask at all times while on the sidelines. These individuals may only be the Hinton sideline and not in the area where players are gathered. 4. For those fans sitting in the bleachers, we ask that you do not chew sunflower seeds. 5. For senior night, we will allow the athlete and their parents to be on field for introductions. Masks will not be required at this time but distancing will be enforced. 6. Homecoming procedures and activities will be posted next week. Please remember these procedures are for the safety of our students. Thank you for your cooperation! Go Comets!

Hinton 8th grade-senior students: it is not often that you can say that you are living through truly historic times. However, that is exactly where we are. I know so many of you are disappointed by what all has transpired. Not much can be said to help take away that disappointment, but in all that happens in our life, we must seek the lessons that God is trying to teach us. One important lesson that we can learn is to finish strong regardless of what life throws at us. We will start distance learning beginning April 6. Students, please login to your canvas account starting tomorrow, Thursday March 26, for important announcements on how we are going to finish the year. Parents and students, if you have any questions, you may call the school between 8-3 pm or you may send an email to email@example.com
Starting April 6, the Hinton Public Schools will begin DISTANCE LEARNING. Distance Learning is learning set forth by the school that could be packets provided by your teacher and/or on-line learning directed by your teacher. Your child's teacher(s) or principal will be reaching out to you next week in order that you know what the time and type of learning will look like for your school age children. More information will be sent out soon. Thank you!
We know there is much disappointment and uncertainty at this time. Please understand that our local school administration is meeting daily. The state school board will make a decision Wednesday regarding the remainder of the school year. While we cannot guarantee that activities such as sports, prom, banquets, and the Spring Festival will take place this year, we feel it is vital to recognize the milestone achievement of our Seniors. We are determined to find a way to give them the proper recognition they deserve as graduates of Hinton High School. How or when this will occur is to be determined.
Elementary and Middle School Parents, If your child has medication(s) at the school, please make arrangements to pick them up Monday, March 23, between 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. You will go to the main entrance of your child’s school and the secretary will assist you from there. Thank you!
HINTON SCHOOLS Questions with Answers Does everyone still get paid during these extra days out of school? Yes, All teachers and support staff will remain getting paid. Will we have to make up days missed? According to OSSBA’s email on 3/16-2020 to Mrs. Derryberry, No, not at this time. Will we still have state testing? At this time, the answer to this is uncertain. State Superintendent Joy Hofmiester will be letting us know soon. Who will be working at school during this closure? Our district is closed to non-essential personnel. Essential personnel are those needed to attend to business and perform daily needs such as handing out meals and upkeep on buildings and grounds as needed. The essential personnel will change often. During spring break the janitors have worked to disinfect the entire district as well as all areas are being sprayed with the 360 machine. All athletic facilities are closed and are not to be used by any student or adult. Will we need to set up online course work to continue educating our students? Not at this time, but could possibly do so if the state directs us to add more closed days after April 6. Will we still have prom? Prom was pushed back to April 18 earlier in the year, therefore, the answer to this is it will remain April 18, unless the state directs us to add more closed days after April 6. When will we get to continue on with our athletic schedule? Regular schedule will resume on April 6 unless the state directs us to add more closed days. Who will need to come handout and deliver the meals for our students? At this time, Mrs. Derryberry is working with the Keystone Area Manager, the principals and Child Nutrition Directors. In keeping with the CDC guidelines, it is best to limit the numbers of volunteers. At this time, no more help is needed. Yet prayers are always appreciated. What about Spring Festival? We will still have the Spring Festival on Friday, May 1 at 7:00 P.M., unless the state directs us to add more closed days after April 6. Will we be having end of the year field trips? This really can’t be determined at this time. Will we be having the end of the year banquets? This really can’t be determined at this time. There are many unanswered questions that still can’t be answered for some time. Tomorrow, Superintendent Hofmiester will have a phone conference once again with the superintendents across the state. We will continue to keep you informed. Please stay safe and healthy. Mrs. Derryberry

ORWA Circuit Rider, Kim Goodin held a entry level C water lab class in Hinton, Ok. Through a collaborative effort between Josh Brookshire, Hinton Public Works Director and Hinton High School Guidance Counselor Mrs. Catlin, four high school students were able to attend and observe the class. The students participated in the question and answering portion, as well as a hands on table top exercise on alkalinity testing. They were also very inquisitive as to how they could get into the water industry and what training was needed. ORWA would like to thank everyone involved in making this opportunity possible, and hope to see these young adults taking advantage of our scholarship or apprenticeship programs in the near future. #orwa #RuralWater #apprenticeship #college #highschool #students #training #sustainibility #strategicalliance #stem

We are working to bless about 8 soldiers. We are hoping to personalize these care packages with specific things that each soldier likes, so we are going to take monetary donations and purchase the supplies. We are asking that each 7th grader that is able, donate $4.00. If you would like to donate more than the $4.00, we will put every cent of the donations to good use. We are forever grateful for those who serve in our U.S. Military and we want to show our appreciation through these packages. We will be taking donations until March 1st.
